Has spread to 15 countries! Monkeypox outbreak! WHO warns: Human-to-human transmission is occurring and cases will continue to increase

Before the COVID-19 is over, there is another global outbreak of the virus “monkeypox”.

In response, the World Health Organization (WHO) held an emergency meeting to discuss the outbreak. It is reported that monkeypox is a more common viral infection in West and Central Africa.

Monkeypox is a viral zoonotic, self-limiting disease. Monkeypox virus can be transmitted from animals to humans through close contact, although interpersonal transmission does not easily occur, but close contact with patients may also be infected. This virus belongs to the same virus family as smallpox, and monkeypox virus can be transmitted through droplet transmission.

According to UN news reports, monkeypox virus is mainly transmitted to humans through wild animals such as rodents and primates, but it can also be transmitted from person to person. Monkeypox symptoms are often: fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, back pain, tremors, and fatigue.

Severe illness is common in children or immunodeficient individuals and is also related to the underlying health status of the infected person, the degree of exposure to the virus, and the severity of complications. The rate of death from monkeypox epidemics varies widely, ranging from about 3 to 6 percent in recent years.

In addition, contact with monkeypox blisters, crusts, coughs, or clothing, bedding, and towels used by the patient can be a route of transmission of monkeypox.

Europe’s largest ever outbreak of monkeypox

The ease of transmission of the monkeypox virus, coupled with the recent announcement by the European Union that flights from all member states may not be mandatory for passengers to present nucleic acid test reports, vaccine certificates and entry health registrations prior to boarding, has increased the potential risk of transmission of the monkeypox virus.

Currently, cases have been reported in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the UK and other European countries.

Susan Hopkins, chief medical advisor for the UK Health and Safety Executive, said on the 22nd that the UK is now finding people infected with monkeypox virus every day who are not associated with any West African travel history. As of the 20th, the UK has recorded a cumulative total of 20 confirmed cases of monkeypox.

Spain reported 24 new cases Friday, mainly in the Madrid area, where the local government closed a sauna associated with most of the infections.

Germany’s Armed Forces Medical Service, which found the first case of monkeypox in the country Friday, said:This is “the largest and most widespread monkeypox outbreak ever in Europe.”

Monkeypox outbreak spreads to 15 countries

Since the outbreak of monkeypox, more and more countries have been affected, and the transmission of monkeypox and whether there will be mass outbreaks have caused concern in various countries. A total of 15 countries have now seen cases of this virus.

According to ABC, health officials in Florida are investigating a suspected case of monkeypox. Earlier, Massachusetts reported the first case confirmed in the United States in 2022.

For this virus, White House New Coronavirus Response Coordinator Ashish Jha said on 22 local time that the monkeypox virus spreads significantly differently than the New Coronavirus, and the spread of the virus in the United States may expand in the coming period.

Australia also recently said it has confirmed a case of monkeypox infection in a traveler who recently returned from the United Kingdom, and another suspected case is still being tested. In addition, the Israeli Ministry of Health confirmed the first confirmed case of monkeypox in the country.

The latest news from the World Health Organization (WHO) states that 92 confirmed and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox have been reported to WHO from 12 non-endemic countries. Surveillance in non-endemic areas has been limited to date, but is now expanding. Confirmed cases of monkeypox are expected to continue to increase globally.

WHO noted that “available information suggests that person-to-person transmission is occurring between people who have close physical contact with cases with symptoms of monkeypox.”

It also emphasized that monkeypox is transmitted in a different manner than neocoronavirus, with close contact being the primary mode of transmission. Monkeypox requires transmission through close contact with a person, animal or object infected with the virus. It enters the body through broken skin, respiratory tract, eyes, nose and mouth.

WHO also said that the discovery of confirmed and suspected cases of monkeypox without direct travel links to endemic areas is a highly unusual event.
